EuroMillions pools 10 national European lotteries to create huge jackpots and prizes. The largest jackpot prize was £171 million (€190 million) won in 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2019 by a single ticket holder each time. Although the jackpot prizes are generally smaller than their US counterparts, it should be noted that there payouts are generally lump sum and tax free. The lottery draws are done on Tuesday and on Friday evenings at 20:00 GMT.
How to Play EuroMillions
Players need to choose numbers from two different sets. Five numbers out of 50 need be selected first, plus 2 Lucky Stars (numbers) out another set of 12. The player needs to only guess one of the sets correctly in order to win a prize. Those that get the 5+2 combination correct, get the top jackpot. Players have the option to purchase additional numbers to add to the original picks. An extra number from the set of 50 will cost a player an additional €10, while an extra Lucky Star will cost an additional €4. Get both a number and a Lucky Star, and the cost goes up by €34.
EuroMillions Prizes and Odds
Each draw offers 13 prize tiers. The exact value of each tier, including the jackpot, is based on how many tickets are sold. The lottery starts at a minimum of €15 million and is rolled over to a maximum €190 million, where it is capped at this level for a maximum of two draws. If, after the second draw with a €190m jackpot with no winner, the prize money is distributed to the next winning prize tier. The odds of winning the top jackpot is 1 in 140 million. The overall odds of winning a prize is 1 in 13.
Note: Average Prize represent the results drawn between 10/05/2011 and 08/05/2020.
